Board approves 2026-27 school calendar and three policy updates

The Vancouver School Board approved the 2026-27 school calendar after brief discussion about community input and the timing of any larger calendar changes. Board members said staff will pursue broader outreach earlier in the next cycle if the district considers larger calendar shifts in the future.
The board also approved three policy revisions on second reading: Policy 1630 (evaluation of the superintendent), Policy 5251 (conflicts of interest), and Policy 5310 (compensation and recovery of overpayments). The superintendent and staff noted the policy changes were recommended by WASDA (Washington Association of School District Administrators) or updated to reflect federal bid thresholds and RCW references, and the changes were described as previously vetted in committee of the whole.
Three additional policies were presented on first reading (learning assistance, guidance and counseling nondiscrimination language, and bid requirements) and will return for future action.
The votes on the calendar and the second-reading policies were unanimous.
