Equestrian club asks city to replace warm-up arena and announces Sept. 7 Escaramuza festival

Rosa Cifuentes, president of the Valley Equestrian Community Club and a longtime Jurupa Valley resident, used the public-comment portion of the council meeting to thank Mayor Guillermo Silva and the California State Horsemen's Association for support, to request replacement of the warm-up arena at the Rick Thompson Arena with a permanent round arena, and to announce the club's first Escaramuza Festival on Sept. 7 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Rick Thompson Arena on Jurupa Road.
Cifuentes said the club now has 27 members and has begun scheduling practices at the Rick Thompson Arena. She asked the Park Board to obtain quotes for a permanent round arena and requested consideration of a portable round arena so events can be held in the large arena. "We are now an established club," she said, and invited council members and the public to attend the festival.
Council acknowledged the request and noted the Park Board had already directed staff to obtain quotes after the club's prior request; staff will report back through park board processes.
