Todd County School Board adopts agenda, approves trip and moves into executive session on personnel

The Todd County School Board adopted the meeting agenda and approved routine items during its public session, Chair Michelle Allen said, recording a unanimous voice vote on several motions.

Superintendent Roberta told the board, "I went ahead and attached the council report for you to get in and see them," and provided updates on staffing, the completed summer professional development calendar and the need to appoint a representative for upcoming negotiations.

During the consent agenda the board acknowledged a long-serving cooking instructor whose resignation was included on the consent list; a board member offered congratulations on her long career. The board then approved an out-of-state trip for Todd County High School students to attend an Inclusivity Conference in April by unanimous vote.

Board members discussed operational matters, including a proposed plan previously requested to consider separating the transportation maintenance department. One board member cautioned against adding administrative layers given limited revenue, urging the district to "work with what we got in order to provide...opportunity for our staff," and administration said they were considering options but recommended avoiding new positions for now.

Before closing the public portion of the meeting, Chair Allen proposed entering executive session under the cited South Dakota codified law for personnel matters; the board moved, seconded and voted to enter executive session at about 5:52 p.m. The public portion ended with thanks from Chair Allen.

No formal personnel decisions were disclosed in the public record prior to the executive session.
