Carlsbad council honors Carolyn Luna at final meeting

The Carlsbad City Council used part of its Dec. 10, 2024 meeting to recognize outgoing Councilmember Carolyn Luna for two years of service on the council and five years on the planning commission.
Colleagues described Luna as thoughtful, analytical and collaborative. One councilmember said Luna acted as the council’s “den mother,” while others highlighted her planning and land-use experience and the family’s long record of public service. Assemblymember Tasha Burner presented a certificate of recognition on behalf of the California State Assembly and praised Luna’s leadership on local issues such as e-bike safety and lifeguard rescue efforts.
Luna thanked colleagues, family and city staff. She named city engineer Tom Frank and parks and recreation director Kyle Lancaster for their assistance and singled out Lieutenant Gary Marshall and staff member Andy Dykes for behind-the-scenes support to the council. Luna closed by encouraging attendees to enjoy the holiday season and expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve.
The recognition took place before oaths for newly elected and reelected officials and preceded the meeting’s consent calendar and other business.
