Planning commission approves conditional use permit for family-oriented arcade at Fountain Center Plaza

The Planning Commission voted to approve Conditional Use Permit (CUP) No. 1202 to allow a recreational arcade to occupy Unit A of Fountain Center Plaza at 501 West Redlands Boulevard.
Nelson Esqueda, the staff presenter, outlined findings supporting approval, stating that the proposal is consistent with the Transit Village general plan designation, satisfies zoning requirements, and qualifies for a CEQA exemption under Section 15301 as an existing facility. "Staff recommends that the Planning Commission adopt Resolution 1692 to approve Conditional Use Permit 1202 based on the analysis and findings in the staff report," Nelson said.
Applicant Abby McCartney, owner of Claw Corner, told the commission the business will be locally owned and family friendly, with 21 claw machines, token purchases, a merchandise counter and vending machine, two staff per shift and a maximum patron load of 45. "We are excited to open our first location in the heart of Redlands," McCartney said.
Commissioner Wells moved to adopt Resolution 1692 approving CUP 1202 based on staff findings; a motion was seconded and carried with all commissioners voting "Aye." The motion includes the conditions of approval attached to the staff report.
With no public opposition at the hearing, the commission closed public comment and approved the permit.
