Library staff shows renovation progress, requests state grant extension to Dec. 31

The staff presentation walked trustees through project renderings and recent site photos showing demolition, trenching and new conduit and plumbing installations for future restrooms, teen and children’s spaces, and a community room. Staff said the project is actively under construction and described visible work in the parking lot and interior foundation trenches.
During the renovation briefing the staff reported they had filed a request to extend the project’s state grant (originally scheduled to conclude in March) through Dec. 31 to allow more time for construction completion. Staff said they are awaiting state approval of the extension; the meeting record does not show an approval decision at the Feb. 4 meeting.
In the treasurer’s report preceding the renovation update, the treasurer said the account balance rose “from 1.578 to 1.596.” He said he could not immediately identify what accounted for roughly the $18,000 increase; staff suggested it likely included a quarter‑two interest allocation of about $13,000 and a $4,000 donation from Linda Jarman.
Staff also encouraged residents to use palmspringslibrary.org and the EngagePalmSprings project page to see photos, renderings and timeline information; they noted continued program activity while construction proceeds. Staff said that as work continues they will keep trustees updated and post renovation progress online.
What happens next: staff will await the state’s response to the grant extension request, continue construction and provide periodic renovation updates to the board and the public.
