The Carlsbad Beach Preservation Commission opened Tuesday by noting a quorum, approving minutes from Aug. 6, and receiving a resignation: staff announced Vice Chair Colby has resigned after deciding to move out of state.
Director Lancaster told the commission Colby submitted his resignation within weeks of the meeting. Commissioners thanked him for nearly four years of service; Lancaster said staff would prepare a letter and certificate of appreciation to mail once a chairperson is elected.
Commissioners discussed whether to hold nominations and an election for officers at the Oct. 1 meeting or to continue that item until the December meeting so more commissioners can participate. The chair moved to continue the nomination/election item to December; the transcript does not record a formal roll-call vote on that motion, and the commission proceeded to schedule its December meeting.
On the calendar item, the commission considered three scheduling options for future meetings. The chair moved that the commission tentatively meet Dec. 5 at 3 p.m., with Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. as a backup if the meeting space is unavailable. Because the electronic voting system was not recording some votes, the clerk called for a verbal roll-call; Commissioners Stark, Norrell, Burrows and Ferguson each verbally voted "yes," confirming the tentative Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. plan.
Commissioner Burrows said she was willing to serve as vice chair if needed. Several commissioners asked staff to circulate a consolidated spreadsheet of tracked dredging projects with cubic-yard estimates, timelines and funding sources to make future agenda review simpler; staff agreed.
The director closed with remarks thanking Vice Chair Colby for his service. The meeting adjourned without further public comment.
