The El Cajon City Council unanimously accepted improvements to Stoney's Neighborhood Park on a staff recommendation, authorizing the city clerk to record a notice of completion.
Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation Julie Lan told the council the project installed eight new adult fitness pieces placed near the park fence to allow caregivers to exercise while supervising children, replaced washed‑out mulch with rubber tile surfacing after heavy winter storms, and used Community Development Block Grant funds to support the work. "We had 8 new pieces of equipment installed," Lan said, adding that the new surfacing makes the park safer and avoids future closures after storms.
Council members asked clarifying questions about the park's location and whether dogs are allowed; staff confirmed Stoney's Park is the park in front of the library and said dog rules for downtown areas are being considered separately. A council member moved to adopt the resolution accepting the Stoney's Park fitness equipment and resurfacing projects and directing the city clerk to record a notice of completion; the motion was seconded and carried by unanimous vote.
The council previously handled a consent item that transferred a park ranger position from the Police Department to Parks and Recreation. Staff described that transfer as an internal reclassification rather than a new position: "It's not a new position. It's just a transfer of position where we're modifying how the park ranger used to function under the police department," staff said.
Council members said they appreciated the improvements and the ability to use existing grant funds to complete the work. The council took no further action; staff will record the notice of completion as authorized.
