The El Cajon City Council approved a $113,916.38 amendment to the construction management contract with Unico Engineering for the Oakdale Alameda Street Beautification Project after staff reported design changes during construction extended the project completion date from December to March 2025.
Mario Sanchez, city engineer, said the project is approximately 65% complete and that design changes — including reinstating some parking to accommodate businesses, repaving Walter Way and completing alley and sidewalk work — required additional construction management effort. Sanchez said the project is funded with ARPA, a Clean California grant and TransNet funds. Council members asked about the reasons for modifications and whether residents were being kept informed; staff said one complaint was received about limited parking during construction and that the resident was kept informed.
A motion to approve the contract amendment carried unanimously. No public speakers were present on the item.
