The El Cajon City Council unanimously approved the award of bid number 022-25 to construct a new five-court pickleball complex at Wells Park, an ARPA-funded recreational project.
Sonon Kachi of the engineering services department described the project as a new pickleball complex in the park’s northwest corner with five courts, benches, tables, a drinking fountain, three shade structures, LED lighting, security cameras, a changeable marquee sign, sound-attenuating screens along the west and north sides and about 700 square feet of renovated space in the existing well center to serve as a pro shop or welcome center.
Staff prepared a noise and acoustic analysis to address neighboring properties. Councilmembers asked about outreach to local pickleball groups and operating hours; staff said a stakeholder/public outreach meeting was held and that the courts would follow park hours, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The council moved to approve the staff recommendation and the motion carried by unanimous vote of those present. No public speakers were present on the item.
