The City of Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanimously on Nov. 18 to adopt its 2025 meeting calendar and to forward the commission’s 2025 work plan to the City Council for approval.
Recreation Services Manager Mick Calarco summarized the work plan, explaining the document follows the Carlsbad Municipal Code requirement that each commission provide an annual plan with mission, composition, goals and tasks. Commissioners discussed whether to remove a now-completed pickleball-court item from the plan or mark it as finished; staff recommended retaining it as a reference tied to the master plan. Chair (speaker 1) moved to accept the staff recommendation and the motion carried after a second.
The calendar adopted keeps monthly meetings with January and February exceptions to avoid holidays and adjusts two January/February meeting dates in 2025 because of council-chamber scheduling. Director Lancaster said staff will present the work plan to council in early 2025 for formal approval.
The commission’s action is procedural: it approves the commission-level calendar and forwards the recommended work plan to the council. The next procedural step is a City Council docket item expected in January or February 2025 for final approval. The commission also discussed a staff-provided matrix that would show status checks for work-plan items so residents and councilors can track completed and ongoing tasks.
