Commission reports small Sylvan Boulevard parcel would conform to general plan after amendment

At its July 23 meeting the Redlands Planning Commission reviewed a staff report on a small, triangular parcel located on the south side of Sylvan Boulevard west of Division Street near Sylvan Park and concluded the site would be in conformance with the Redlands General Plan after amending the land‑use designation to public institutional.
Staff (Brian Foote) described the parcel as vacant, unimproved, bounded by a San Bernardino County flood control channel to the north and a railroad right‑of‑way to the south, and approximately one‑third of an acre (about 13,157 square feet). Foote said potential future uses include extending the Orange Blossom Trail through the area or creating a small parking lot to serve Sylvan Park; staff recommended the commission report that the potential acquisition would conform to the general plan for public facility use after amendment.
Commissioner Gonzales moved the motion (seconded by Commissioner Shaw); the commission voted unanimously to report conformity. Foote said financial analysis and ownership details would be handled by the Facilities and Community Services Department and would precede any matter going to city council.
This report is a preliminary conformity finding. Any acquisition, amendment and construction would require council consideration and further staff analysis.
