Commission approves repairs to jail dorms, funding shifted from contingency

“We have approximately 30 inmates in Alpha dorm. We have 4 showers and only 1 is working,” the jail representative said, urging approval so repairs can proceed.
Staff presented proposals and recommended Dixie Electric Plumbing and Air to perform the work; commissioners were told the repairs will require moving funds from the general fund contingency into the jail maintenance/repair account. The chair summarized and asked for a motion to approve the repairs and the budget amendment; on motion and second, the commission approved transferring contingency funds to the jail maintenance account and authorized the repairs to proceed under public-works procurement thresholds.
Officials said the work follows a successful pilot repair of another dorm and that staff solicited multiple quotes before the recommendation.
