Chino Hills council names Art Bennett mayor, Brian Jones vice mayor; issues Purple Heart proclamation

The Chino Hills City Council unanimously approved a leadership reorganization Nov. 26, installing Art Bennett as mayor and Brian Jones as vice mayor for the term beginning Dec. 1, 2024. Council members voted 5–0 on the procedural motion to confirm the appointments.
The change followed a short roll call and remarks of congratulations on the council floor. Mayor-designate Bennett acknowledged the support and councilmembers noted Jones joined remotely.
In a ceremonial presentation the council proclaimed Chino Hills a "Purple Heart City" and presented the proclamation to Ronnie Geier. Geier, a Purple Heart recipient, held up his medal and said, “This is my purple heart. 1966, it looks worn… I share my living history with students in school… Been doing that for 25 years.” He described veteran outreach work that pairs veterans with students to share personal history and help other veterans seek services.
The proclamations and reorganization were part of a brief agenda that also included recognitions for local public-safety personnel and community announcements. The council adjourned the meeting in memory of former city employee David Stilwell, who died Nov. 13 at age 73.
