The Public Art Advisory Subcommittee on Nov. 13 reviewed nine qualified submissions for the Barrio Traffic Circle permanent public art project and voted unanimously to invite three finalists — Mario Torero, Roberto Salas and Sija Chen Studio — to present in person at a Dec. 19 subcommittee meeting.
Craddock Stropes, the city's cultural arts manager, told the panel the project site is the traffic circle at Harding Street and Pine Avenue and that the selection is governed by the city's Art in Public Places program, which directs that roughly 1% of certain construction project costs be dedicated to public art.
