Redlands council approves events, paving contract and downtown indemnification; cancels two meetings

At its Oct. 1 meeting, the Redlands City Council cleared several routine but consequential items.
Events: The council approved temporary street closures and alcohol sales for the Big Bear Marathon (expected ~3,200 attendees) and authorized in-kind city support of $11,948 for the Redlands Chamber of Commerce’s Dog Jog (expected ~600 attendees). Chamber membership director Debbie Menard described the event program, shelters participating and fundraising beneficiaries.
Paving: Public Works staff recommended awarding the Pavement Management Program 2024 contract to the low bidder (Manage/Mannage Corporation) for an amount not to exceed $4,677,377 and approved an additional appropriation of $815,066 to include county-reimbursable portions of work; council approved the contract.
Indemnification: Assistant City Manager Boatman explained an indemnification agreement for two recently acquired downtown parking lots that protects the city from ADA claims tied to the seller’s prior ownership period; council approved the agreement with Redlands Community Investment Corporation.
Calendar: The council voted to cancel the Nov. 5, 2024 meeting (Election Day) and the Jan. 7, 2025 meeting due to holiday staffing and packet-preparation constraints, with staff saying routine business can be handled at adjacent meetings.
