Arts Commission adopts 2025 calendar and approves work plan

The Carlsbad Arts Commission voted unanimously on Dec. 5 to adopt a 2025 meeting calendar that schedules 10 regular meetings and omits January and July. Commissioner Ferroni moved the calendar motion; the commission approved the proposal without dissent.

Staff presented two calendar options: an every‑other‑month schedule beginning in February and a monthly schedule beginning in February. Commissioners debated meeting frequency, quorum challenges, and whether to retain a longer off‑month period to allow subcommittees to meet. The adopted calendar reflects a compromise to limit summer scheduling conflicts and strengthen participation.

Separately, the commission approved the fiscal‑year work plan (labeled in packet exhibits) for 2024–25, with staff noting that the work plan will be forwarded to City Council for approval in early 2025. During the meeting staff also highlighted program metrics: more than 22,000 attendees at TGIF concerts, over 4,000 annual film‑series attendees, and roughly 15,000 gallery visitors over the past year.

The commission’s calendar and work plan approvals set meeting dates and priorities for the coming year; staff said they will proceed with outreach and programming consistent with the approved plan.
