The Carlsbad City Council recognized October as Public Safety Awareness Month with a proclamation read by Councilmember Carolyn Luna and accepted by assistant fire marshal Darcy Davidson, Sergeant Mike Ernst of the police department and Michael O'Brien, public works superintendent.
Davidson said the fire department will promote Fire Prevention Week and a targeted program to install functioning smoke alarms in homes at no charge. Sergeant Mike Ernst noted the continued collaboration among police, fire and public works and thanked the council for supporting risk‑reduction programs. Michael O’Brien highlighted Public Works’ role maintaining city assets and supporting first responders during emergencies.
Davidson invited residents to the city’s Public Safety Open House scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Safety Training Center. The departments said the event will showcase prevention programs, emergency response demonstrations and community engagement activities.
The proclamation was presented as part of the meeting’s ceremonial agenda and attendees posed for a quick photo following the presentation.
