The Big Bear Lake City Council voted unanimously to amend the city’s legal services agreement and designate the attorney selected in closed session as the city’s new city attorney.
City Manager Sun told the council the matter was a housekeeping action following interviews and a closed-session decision to select a replacement for former City Attorney Steve Deitch. “At that meeting, the council made an announcement thereafter that they had made their selection for our new City Attorney, Hundau,” Sun said during the discussion. The amendment formalizes that designation in the city’s contract documents.
There was brief public comment on the process. After the roll call vote—Mayor Pro Tem Segovia, Council Members Melnick, Hicks, Herrick and Mayor Putz all voting aye—the motion passed.
City Attorney Hongdao, newly welcomed by the city clerk later in the meeting, said she was pleased to work with the city and staff during the onboarding process. The city attorney reported that there was no reportable action from the closed session earlier in the meeting.
The council’s approval updates the city’s contract records and allows the newly designated city attorney to assume duties under the amended terms. The council did not take further public action on the item at the meeting.
