Aaron Bergison, project manager in public works, said the downtown splash pad will be commissioned this Wednesday subject to troubleshooting, and that the Victoria restroom project will go out to bid in March with an award expected in April or May. Bergison outlined a fast-track pavilion renovation with IT and HVAC upgrades complete and door and window replacement work scheduled to start on March 12.
Staff also reviewed public-art progress: footings for multiple park sculptures are scheduled over the next two weeks, most installations are planned for March–early April and one piece is delayed by the artist’s schedule. Brickley and Bergison said the AIDS Memorial stone is still being milled in Italy and the dragonfly bench awaits final engineering drawings before installation.
On programming, staff previewed a slate of community events for the city’s "50 Years of Sunrise" year of play: a rec-unplugged series beginning at Victoria Park, a spring camp (March 30–April 10), a dive-in movie at the swim center in June, Village Fest and July Parks & Rec Month activities, World Art Day on April 11, a Cinco de Mayo event on May 1 and a Mother's Day celebration in May. A new youth basketball league (coed, ages 5–14) will start March 4; staff are recruiting volunteer coaches and referees.
Commissioners asked follow-up questions about schedules, data on splash-pad usage and coordination with partner groups; staff said they are compiling usage figures and will share them when available.
