County to partner with hospital on grant writing, create funded grant manager post

County Manager Tim Hunt said the idea is to sign an MOU under which the hospital would pay roughly $85,000 per year to the county for grant‑writing support. That revenue, together with administrative fees from downtown revitalization (DRI) projects, would fund a new grant manager position and an additional grant coordinator in the planning department. Hunt said the county’s grants team is currently at capacity and the proposal is intended to increase grant volume and local capture of available funds.
Hunt described the position’s proposed salary range as $58,000 to $82,552 annually. Committee members asked whether a single position would be enough; staff said the plan was to re‑evaluate performance and outputs in six to eight months and emphasized the position would be fully funded by external reimbursements and the hospital contribution.
The committee approved forwarding the authorization to the full board; the resolution will appear on the Board of Legislators agenda for final approval.
