The Jefferson Union High School District board approved joint‑use and maintenance agreements with Pacifica United Soccer Club (PUSC) allowing the club to continue using the upper field at Oceana High School and to undertake maintenance and restoration of the middle field.
Deputy Superintendent Tina Van Rapphorst presented the agreements and introduced Curtis Chan of PUSC, who said the volunteer-run organization serves about 435 youth across seasons and runs summer camps, free skills clinics and student-coach opportunities. Chan told trustees PUSC expects to raise about $20,000 for field improvements and plans to configure the middle field as a 9v9 playing/training space for youth teams.
Trustees thanked the club for volunteering and increasing field use; one trustee noted recent loss of available field space in the area and called the partnership important for youth sports. The board moved and seconded approval of the agreements and approved them by voice vote; President Walker announced an abstention due to a personal interest.
The agreements authorize the club to use and maintain the middle field and to continue use of the upper field; the administration indicated the district will retain access for school programs and events. Curtis Chan emphasized volunteer staffing and partnership with district staff to keep the fields available for both school and community uses.
Next steps: the district will finalize the memoranda of understanding and work with PUSC and district sites to sequence maintenance and use schedules.
