Members discussed signage in Sebastopol and whether city signage should be more uniform or allow more creative, artistic options. A design-review board member (S4) said the city already has sign standards reviewed by the Design Review Board, but noted there's room to make signage more creative rather than strictly uniform.
Planning staff (S6) said the sign ordinance is one of their projects to update and that the update process could include outreach to the public-arts community and the DRB. "When we get to the sign ordinance section, I can definitely reach out to the public arts community and work in relation with this group and the design review board," staff said. Members discussed whether the committee should develop consistent signage for city-sponsored public-art projects and how signage in rights-of-way differs from private signage.
Committee members agreed this topic warrants a future agenda item and that staff could share draft ordinance language with the group once available for feedback.
