The committee directed staff to confirm that public works can mow the site, identify any needed environmental clearances and e-mail the group to confirm whether May 3 is feasible.
Committee members and a member of the public who has been coordinating with tribal groups said tribal participation is important. Gregory (Speaker 6) told the committee he had contacted the Graton Rancheria and Dry Creek groups and said tribal attendance would require “a date set with an invite” from the city. Chair (Speaker 2) and other members agreed staff should confirm the tribe’s procedural requirements and share a formal invitation if necessary.
Staff (Staff member, Speaker 4) reported the AmeriCorps trail and related environmental permitting remain in progress. "There is slight modification from what was presented a long time ago," the staff member said, and noted that some portions of the trail and a permanent bridge could be part of a multi-phase construction plan but are delayed until final environmental permits and species protection measures are complete.
Members discussed site visibility and accessibility. Several suggested limiting the number of trees removed and exploring "limbing" (pruning) as a less permanent option; committee members asked staff to check whether tree work or additional mowing would require permits because the site borders the Laguna de Santa Rosa. The committee also asked staff to confirm whether a temporary bridge will be in place for the date and whether the site’s embankment presents ADA-access limitations.
The committee agreed to refine details in the coming weeks and report back, with a formal recommendation to be agendized if a city-council-level invitation or consent is required. The committee scheduled a next update for its December meeting and will follow up by email on the May 3 date and mowing logistics.
The committee adjourned after reviewing other agenda items.
