Tiva Dawson, introduced as the contracted art curator with Group Creative Services, presented an existing‑conditions report and program goals that emphasize guest experience, local identity and integration into upcoming capital projects. Staff recommended committing up to $60,020 for fiscal year 2026 and up to $267,500 for fiscal year 2027 to airport art projects, and an O&M line (not to exceed $7,250 in FY26 and $30,250 in FY27) to support installation, marketing and maintenance.
Commission discussion stressed including meaningful tribal representation in the art working group. A commissioner requested that a tribal representative be invited to participate; staff agreed to follow up offline. Commissioners also praised the emphasis on local artists and asked staff to coordinate with the Palm Springs Art Museum and other cultural partners.
With funding approved, staff said they would issue an open call for artists as soon as paperwork and contracting are in place and target initial installations (column wraps in baggage claim) for May. The commission voted on the staff motion in a roll call; the motion carried.
