Resident and animal-care professional urge corrected police statements after dog was killed

Summary
Two public commenters told the council video contradicts the city's press release about a Feb. 27 incident in which a resident killed a dog; they asked the police department and city to review footage and issue corrected statements before the district attorney reviews the case.
During public comment, resident Carlos Alvarado said video of a Feb. 27 incident shows a “premeditated” killing of his dog and asked the council to correct official statements so the record presented to the district attorney is accurate. A written comment read by staff from Tracy Elizabeth, who identified herself as an animal-care professional with over 20 years’ experience, disputed the city’s March 11 press release wording that described multiple small dogs attacking a woman and said the footage instead shows two escaped dogs that startled a neighbor and caused bruising but no bites.
Elizabeth’s written remarks alleged that the dog’s owner, identified in the comment as Brandon Robinson, drove around the neighborhood, located a French bulldog and stabbed it to death; she called the act a “calculated act of violence” and said inaccurate official statements could prejudice prosecutorial decisions. She asked the council to direct the police department to re-review video evidence and correct city and police statements so the DA receives an accurate account.
The council did not take formal action during public comment. No police representative provided a correction during the meeting. Council members thanked the speakers for raising concerns and the clerk confirmed the written statement would be provided to council.
Because the matter may be under active investigation, the council did not debate operational police findings at the meeting.
