Commission reviews work plan, resident survey and youth ambassador recruitment

Staff presented an updated commission work plan that incorporates amendments made at the July 2025 meeting and reintroduces the youth ambassador program and several community events.
Assistant Director Matthew Morales Stevens said the work plan adds a bike or sustainable transportation event and a resource fair at Marshall Park and includes an updated resident survey. He told the commission the survey packet and youth ambassador application will be distributed to schools, social media and the department’s e‑newsletter.
"It closes on November 7 at 5PM," Stevens said of the youth ambassador application window. He added that interviews will be held in Conference Room A and commissioners should provide availability to staff to participate in panels.
Commissioners debated survey scope and outreach methods. Several members recommended adding a resident/nonresident flag to the survey so staff can sort responses, and discussed targeted outreach to under‑represented neighborhoods, printed distributions at grocery stores and churches, and periodic social media pushes to reach non‑online seniors.
Staff agreed to circulate the survey questions to commissioners for final feedback and to delay bulk distribution until the commission finalizes edits.
