San Gabriel community services welcomes two new staffers as city events ramp up

The City of San Gabriel’s Community Services Commission on Monday introduced two new department hires and reviewed a calendar of upcoming events.
Staff announced Pamela Scott as the department’s new Recreation Coordinator and Star Anger as an Administrative Assistant II. According to staff remarks, Scott brings more than 25 years of event‑planning and community outreach experience and will oversee facility rentals, custodial teams and special events. Scott told commissioners, “I am so excited to be here. Community engagement and outreach is a passion of mine,” and thanked staff and commissioners for the welcome.
Star Anger, who previously worked in roles supporting the Mission Playhouse and youth programs, said she was “very excited to be joining community services” and is already learning the operations.
Staff said the department has one remaining full‑time vacancy (Mission Playhouse supervisor) and has selected a candidate with a tentative start date of Dec. 1. The Commission also heard that youth ambassador recruitment is open with a Nov. 7 application deadline and that staff will resend interview scheduling emails to finalize dates.
Staff closed the staffing portion by highlighting near‑term events: a Veterans Day ceremony at Plaza Park (Saturday, 10–11 a.m.) with take‑home meals provided by the Kiwanis Club of San Gabriel and remarks by the mayor and other dignitaries, plus the December tree‑lighting planned for Plaza Park.
The Commission did not take formal action on hires during the meeting; introductions and operational updates were provided for informational and planning purposes.
The next Community Services Commission meeting is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.; staff said meeting materials will be posted on the city website before that date.
