Superintendent Ken Nisley announced Carilion Clinic’s donation valued at more than $1.25 million to support the division's health sciences program and campaign for excellence; the district also presented the local Perkins plan for CTE funding as an information item.
Superintendent Dr. Ken Nisley told the board that Roanoke County Public Schools has received an investment from Carilion Clinic valued at more than $1,250,000 to support the health sciences program and the district’s campaign for excellence.
"The investment by Carilion Clinic of a donation of teachers and cash valued at over $1,250,000 will benefit our health sciences program and the entire region for years to come," Dr. Nisley said, thanking business partners and the district's CTE leadership.
Jason Sir (speaker 26) presented the proposed local Perkins plan (Perkins V) for 2026–27 as an information item. He described Perkins funds as augmenting CTE programs—equipment, student travel and professional development—and noted the local plan had been reviewed by the CTE general advisory committee the same day. Staff made the local Perkins plan and budget available in BoardDocs and said they expected to request board approval at a future meeting, leaving the item on information tonight.
Board members responded with appreciation for the Carilion donation and encouraged that the gift spur other business partnerships to expand CTE opportunities and local workforce development. The superintendent and board emphasized the role of CTE and the campaign for connecting students with local employers and creating job pathways in the region.
The Perkins presentation will return for action as part of consent at a subsequent meeting unless otherwise directed.
