Summary
Cumberland County supervisors approved supplemental appropriations for a new ambulance funded by an RSAC grant, PPE funding for a volunteer fire department, DMV animal-plate funds for sterilization programs, and a DEQ recycling grant; all motions passed by voice/roll call.
Cumberland County supervisors on March 10 approved a series of supplemental appropriations to fund emergency and community services.
In a finance presentation, Cruz said the county received $252,000 from the Virginia Department of Health’s RSAC grant to help purchase a new ambulance. "The total cost of the ambulance was $362,561 with a local match of $110,561," Cruz told the board and recommended a supplemental appropriation of $252,000. The board approved the appropriation.
Cruz also reported that the Virginia DMV remitted $210.02 to the county as the local share from animal-friendly license plate fees. State code requires those funds be used for sterilization programs; Cruz recommended remitting the amount to the animal control department and the board approved the appropriation.
The Carmelite Volunteer Fire Department received $51,097.45 from the state’s FY2026 PPE grant program. Cruz said those funds were deposited to the county checking account and requested appropriation to the FY26 fire budget; the appropriation passed.
Finally, Cruz notified the board that the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality awarded Cumberland County $9,953.46 for litter prevention and recycling. The funds are designated for recycling and youth education initiatives under the grant. The board approved appropriating the grant to the records disposal/recycling budget.
Each appropriation was presented by the county finance presenter and approved by motion and voice/roll call. Staff said locally matched funds for the ambulance will come from the county’s capital improvements fund.
