Commissioners approve all-wheel-drive Equinox for Community Corrections

The DeKalb County Commissioners voted 3–0 on March 30 to authorize the purchase of a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox (all-wheel drive) for Community Corrections to replace an older vehicle that is no longer cost-effective to repair.
Michelle, speaking for Community Corrections, explained the current vehicle has parts no longer manufactured and that field officers need an all-wheel-drive SUV to access unplowed driveways and safely transport equipment. She recommended the new all-wheel-drive Equinox priced at about $30,725, saying it offers interior space for officers and gear. “The all wheel drive model...so our field officers do work in the wintertime,” she said.
Commissioners approved using the community transition funding account (revenue from DOC per-diem payments) to purchase the vehicle and also authorized staff to list the existing vehicle on the government auction site (GovDeals). The motions to approve purchase and to auction the old car both carried 3–0.
Staff said the new vehicle may be available immediately upon administrative approval and that the appropriation for the fund is healthy enough to proceed.
Next steps: staff will pursue the additional appropriation for the community transition fund as needed and list the old vehicle for auction.
