Summary
The Board approved multiple departmental resolutions — including road and pavement work, sewer projects, capital contracts and weekly bills totaling $1,095,636.50 — and granted a temporary F-class liquor permit for the Medina Beer Fest with one commissioner abstaining from that vote.
The Medina County Board of Commissioners approved a bundle of departmental resolutions during its regular meeting, authorizing infrastructure work, personnel changes and routine finance actions.
The actions included county-engineer items to authorize temporary road closures for culvert replacements, reapply for pavement markings on county and township roads, participate in the ODOT winter salt contract, and approve a right-of-way dedication plat for Main Drive Phase 2 in Lafayette Township. Jeremy Cinco, the county sanitary engineer, secured approval to amend a construction-manager-at-risk agreement with Great Lakes Construction for the Chippewa wastewater treatment plant, to advertise for replacement of water mains along Chippewa and Lake Road, to accept a Water Pollution Control Loan Fund agreement for Chippewa Lake wastewater facilities and to buy department vehicles.
Brett Thomas, the county finance director, presented revenue adjustments, several cash transfers (including a transit operating rollover and a mediation-services transfer), the annual subsidy to the Soil and Water Conservation District, and weekly bills in the amount of $1,095,636.50. The board moved and approved the finance package.
Matt Springer, the county administrator, won approval to hire ECS for design services to replace windows at the Human Services Center, and to contract with Garland for roof replacement at the juvenile detention center (cooperative purchase, $699,937). The board also awarded the engineering center lobby and restroom renovation project to Crown Commercial Construction ($582,917) to bring restrooms into ADA compliance.
Commissioner Hambley praised the Chippewa wastewater project and county communication about rate changes, saying he was “glad we’re moving forward” and urging residents with billing questions to consult the sanitary engineer’s website. The board moved most of the resolution packages as grouped motions and recorded affirmative votes.
On the item to approve an F-class temporary liquor permit at the fairgrounds for Main Street Medina’s 2026 Beer Fest (scheduled for May 9, 2026), one commissioner disclosed a Main Street Medina affiliation and then abstained from the vote. The permit motion passed with the abstention recorded.
The meeting concluded after department reports and the formal adjournment motion.
