Holmen School District lays out 2026 summer-school dates, partnerships and TRP weightlifting plan

The Holmen School District presented proposed 2026 summer-school schedules and program details at its March 9 board meeting, with operational decisions tied to enrollment and staffing.
Ben Tashner, associate principal, outlined elementary reading sessions and enrichment timelines: "Our summer reading program session, June 8 is our first session... summer school enrichment, July 6 to the 20 third, and then our summer school reading session 2, July 27 to August 14." He said the district would run two ACT 20-style reading sessions and is partnering with the YMCA and Boys & Girls Clubs to meet families where they are, listing tutoring sites planned at BGC, Evergreen, Sand Lake and Viking.
Tashner said families of eligible K–5 students will be notified at conferences and may choose session dates and locations when registering. He repeatedly emphasized that some classes and enrichment offerings are enrollment-dependent: "If we don't fill those classes, we won't be able to run those sections."
For middle school, Tashner said summer programs will run July 6–20 with proposed specialized offerings, including an outdoor education rotation where students would rotate through fishing and survival-skills modules. He also described the TRP summer weightlifting program hosted at the high school, noting two high-school morning sessions and three to four middle-school sessions depending on enrollment; "We just won't have transportation, like we did last year," he told the board.
The district plans to open registration via Infinite Campus between March 24 and April 10 and will communicate openings to families. A board member asked whether the football offering would use padded equipment; Tashner replied, "It is not. It'd be more on talking about plays and skills, not full pads."
Tashner said the elementary and middle-school summer proposals will appear on the March 23 consent agenda for approval. The board did not take final action at this meeting on the summer-school items; staff sought board awareness and preparatory approval on the consent agenda.
