Public Works facility nears completion; staff expect occupancy when parking is finished

Steve (public‑works staff) and project staff presented a construction progress update for the city’s new Public Works campus at the March 18 advisory committee meeting.
Project details provided at the meeting: the two buildings total about 60,000 square feet, the campus will house roughly 87 public‑works employees across administrative and crew spaces, the site includes parking for about 124 employees and visitors and indoor vehicle/equipment storage for nearly 200 city vehicles and equipment. The project scope includes a fleet building with a wash bay, vac truck bays, mezzanines for storage, a salt dome and a fuel island; the main campus building includes crew rooms, locker rooms and training space.
Steve said the general contractor is ICS and that exterior brick, interior drywall, HVAC, sprinklers and basic electrical and communications wiring are underway. The fleet building roof was noted as a schedule risk; staff said they expect a completed roof soon and an overall target move‑in of July or August if parking and exterior finishes are finished in time. The city is procuring furniture and sign packages and plans to list existing properties for sale, with an expected $2.5–3.0 million in proceeds to help pay project costs.
Committee members asked about roofing materials and the functionality of the wash bay and snow‑prep bay; staff described the roofs as a mix of flat and sloped systems with metal, insulation and waterproofing, and explained the semi‑automatic vehicle wash and snow‑prep operations in the new bays.
No formal votes were taken on the project during the meeting. Staff said they will return with updates on the roof and the parking schedule at a future meeting.
