Stockton council approves $840,000 from NOFA for housing projects, 7–0

The Stockton City Council unanimously approved an $840,000 allocation from a larger $4.5 million Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) during its Dec. 10 meeting.
Council member Dan Wright asked whether remaining NOFA funds had been allocated and whether the amount before the council represented a partial portion of the original NOFA. Housing staff reported earlier allocations presented in October and said eligible applications had been funded; the $840,000 before the council is an additional eligible application the agency is able to fund.
"If you look at our unhoused population, there's a significant number of people in that community," Council member Wright said during debate, adding an estimate that the city's unhoused population was "above 3,000, maybe above 4,000" depending on counts and timing. Staff said the consolidated five-year plan under development will guide future allocations.
The motion to approve the allocation passed 7–0. Staff said the city has funds available and will bring programming recommendations through the normal budget and plan processes.
