After a closed-session recommendation, the Stockton City Council voted unanimously on March 3 to appoint Marcy Arredondo as the city attorney pending a successful background check and formal approval of an employment agreement.
Outside counsel James Ross announced the closed-session action, saying the council voted 7-0 to appoint Arredondo. Mayor Christina Fugazi read the employment terms into the record: a three-year term, an annual salary of $315,000 with cost-of-living increases consistent with the city's management compensation plan, 30 days of vacation (credited on commencement), 15 days of sick leave annually, $7,000 annually for professional development (reimbursable), $250 per month technology payment, $500 per month vehicle allowance, and a deferred-compensation contribution equal to 9% of salary. Council also noted the appointment is subject to successful completion of a background check and approval of the employment agreement on the regular agenda.
"Today, the city council voted by a vote of 7 to 0 to appoint Marcy Arredondo as the city attorney," outside counsel James Ross said when reporting out of closed session. Following the announcement the council moved the related employment agreement to the regular agenda for formal approval.
Council subsequently considered the employment contract language and then voted to approve the motion to move the item to the agenda and to proceed with the employment agreement process. No public comments were recorded on the closed-session appointment prior to the vote.
The appointment will take effect after the background check and formal execution of the employment agreement.
