The Porterville Downtown Committee voted to suspend regular monthly meetings until July so staff can pursue committee-directed follow-ups on parking, trash cleanup and event planning.
Chair (Speaker 2) moved that the group not meet again until the fourth Thursday in July to allow staff time to implement motions and gather results. The motion was seconded and passed with at least one member recording a 'no' vote; the committee set July 23 as the reconvening date to review budget items, progress on trash cleanup and parking/traffic concerns.
Members said they expect staff to provide interim updates while the committee is not meeting. Staff (Speaker 6) reminded members that the City Council meeting on April 7 will address the JC Penney parking/park contract and timeline; the committee agreed members could call staff or the chair with questions between meetings. Committee members asked staff to prepare materials on handicap parking access and on opportunities to use the master calendar and marketing tools to publicize events.
The committeeclosing remark reiterated the intent to ensure meetings produce tangible results rather than returning to meetings without measurable progress.
