Commissioner Dave Stock introduced the delegation and invited the group's representative, Delgaudio, to speak about the award's history and significance. Delgaudio detailed the Purple Heart’s origins and the Military Order’s mission, saying, “The Purple Heart was originally conceived by General Washington … [and] is a timeless symbol of bravery, fidelity, sacrifice.” He called the designation a “lasting and visible tribute” to combat-wounded veterans and Gold Star families.
Stock read the city proclamation formally designating Dothan as a Purple Heart City and invited recipients and Fort Rucker leadership for a group photo and a reception at the city’s Opera House. The commission approved the proclamation by voice vote during the communications portion of the meeting.
The designation was presented by the Wiregrass Memorial chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and commissioners noted the city’s ongoing ties to nearby Fort Rucker and to local veterans' organizations. The commission announced a reception for recipients and military families following the meeting.
