The Wausau Common Council cleared a slate of committee-referred items on March 24, approving appointments, contracts, ordinances and a legal settlement.
Approvals included minutes from the March 10 meeting and the consent agenda (each passed 9–0). The council confirmed mayoral appointments to the Plan Commission, Affordable Housing Task Force and Business Improvement District Board (vote 9–0).
The council approved a seven-year residential solid-waste and recycling service agreement with Harters Fox Valley Disposal (packet corrected to a seven‑year term), and two airspace obstruction removal agreements and related budget modifications — one with Schofield Ridgeland Legacy LLC (724–732 Ridgeland Avenue) and one with Zachary Lang (11 Richland Avenue). Each of those items was adopted by 9–0 votes.
A finance-committee resolution authorizing the Wausau Police Department to use proceeds from a prior sale to buy red-dot optics was approved 9–0. The council also adopted two personnel-related items — paid duty time for out‑of‑country police training and a premium differential for community outreach and shelter-operations duties — both committee-recommended and approved 9–0.
Under suspension of rules, the council approved consideration of several committee items by a 7–2 vote. An ordinance from Public Health & Safety repealing and recreating Wausau Municipal Code chapter 6.44 (solid waste disposal) to align city code with state code was approved 9–0.
The council then considered a resolution to release claims and settle a counterclaim and third-party complaint in Marathon County case 25‑CVD‑594 (Holzell v. City of Wausau). Assistant City Attorney Vincent Bonino summarized the 2022 transit-related incident, insurer payments and the city’s counterclaim; the council approved the settlement resolution 8–1.
