Commissioners OK $7,900 mechanical work to install donated compactor at transfer station

Scott County commissioners authorized mechanical installation work to put a donated compactor into service at the county transfer station, approving a $7,900 quote from Municipal Equipment Installation and directing staff to proceed.
Commissioner (Speaker 4) and the chair discussed two estimates: $10,000 from Southern Indiana Maintenance LLC and $7,900 from Municipal Equipment Installation. The board agreed the lower quote was acceptable and voted to fund the work from the Venture Trucking fund, revenue the county receives from rental of county property, rather than general taxpayer revenue.
"We get charged 9 ton automatically...so we're losing money," Commissioner (Speaker 4) said while arguing for the compactor installation as a cost-savings measure; the commissioner added the donated compactor will reduce wear on the county's existing unit and improve efficiency. The board noted John Morgan donated the compactor and emphasized keeping the transfer station operational and self-supporting.
Commissioners asked staff to coordinate with James at the transfer station and to authorize technicians to do the work; municipal equipment representatives estimated the job would take about two days if equipment is available. The motion passed by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded.
