Committee hears Greenways audit update and main library reopening plans

The Arts, Parks, Libraries & Entertainment Committee received brief reports and community announcements at its March 17, 2026 meeting, including an update on the city Greenways audit and confirmation that the Nashville Public Library main branch will reopen Monday, March 30 at 615 Church Street.
Chair reported the Greenways audit began March 12 and encouraged committee members to sign up for audit walks; a community walk led by Vice Chair Welsh was scheduled for March 19 at 2 Rivers. A committee member announced the grand opening of the Old Hickory Community Center on Saturday and described the new facility and its art installation.
On the library reopening, the Chair said, "the main library will be reopening on Monday, March 30," and asked the public to follow library communications. A council member asked whether programs missed during the closure would be "made up," and a library representative responded that staff increased outreach while the main branch was closed, partnering with schools and community organizations, and that funding will continue into FY27, so programming largely continued in other locations rather than being rescheduled at the main branch. The library representative also said Director Terry Luke and the library board are exploring parking arrangements with nearby garages (McKendree and a site referred to in the record as 'Natural Yards') for staff and patrons, with additional details to be announced.
