Lancaster County commissioners approve routine minutes, claims, contracts and set public hearing

The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners on March 24 approved a series of routine and budgeted items, including minutes from the March 17 meeting, county claims through March 20 with a payroll amendment, multiple right‑of‑way payments, a public hearing to consider vacating part of the Branch Oak addition bridal plat, a one‑year lease of 57.59 acres to Andrew Neujar, a purchase order to Greenfield for a Sprague salt shed installation at $216,742.88, and a 2025 culvert maintenance contract to Vaught Scapes Inc. for $511,277.

Most items were presented as routine consent or budgeted capital work. Karen Peterson, director of facilities and properties, summarized the lease terms for the 57.59‑acre parcel to Andrew Neujar and commissioners approved the lease by roll call. County Engineer Pam Dingman described the Sprague salt shed replacement as a budgeted item to modernize storage for one of four aging salt sheds.

Dingman said the culvert maintenance contract was the second phase for the budget year, that eight firms bid on the work and that the winning bid was roughly $150,000 under the engineer's estimate, a competitive result she attributed in part to current market conditions. "We did have 8 bidders again... this bid was about a $150,000 under the engineer's estimate," she said.

The board set a public hearing for April 7, 2026, at 9 a.m. in Room 112 of the County‑City Building to consider the petition to vacate part of a plat near Northwest 140th Street. Public comment at the March 24 meeting was invited and none was offered. The board also noted upcoming staff meetings and interviews for the risk management director position and adjourned.
