Henderson council ratifies Reggie Raider as chief of police and administers oath

The Henderson City Council unanimously ratified Reggie Jerome Raider as the city's new chief of police at a special meeting, then administered his oath of office in a ceremonial event that included a color guard and the national anthem.

City Manager Stephanie Garcia Vos introduced the appointment and recommended ratification, noting Raider's local ties and career background. The council moved to ratify the appointment; the clerk reported the motion carried and that "all members voted in favor." No individual roll-call votes were read aloud.

After the formal vote, Raider took the oath of office. Chief Reggie Jerome Raider thanked family, colleagues and the assembled officers, and pledged to prioritize collaboration and transparency. "You have a voice and you are heard," Raider said, adding that he had already begun reviewing staffing needs and was "trying to beef up the patrol for this next shift bid" to reduce overtime pressures on officers.

Mayor Romero and multiple councilmembers welcomed Raider to the city, praising his experience and the department. City officials noted Raider graduated from Green Valley High School, has nearly 3 decades of law enforcement experience, and most recently served as deputy chief with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he oversaw more than 400 commissioned and civilian employees.

Votes at a glance: the council voted to accept the meeting agenda (motion credited by the clerk to Councilman Stewart) and to ratify Raider's appointment (motion credited by the clerk to Councilwoman Larson); on both items the clerk reported that all members voted in favor and the motions carried. Individual vote tallies were not read into the record.

The mayor adjourned the meeting after a second public-comment period produced no speakers and announced a reception across the hall to honor the new chief. The Redevelopment Agency meeting was scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m.
