Forest Hills recognizes National Merit finalists; foundation awards $45,000 in student grants and launches 5K fundraiser

The Forest Hills Board of Education used its March 18 meeting to highlight student achievement and community fundraising.
Board members recognized National Merit Scholarship Program finalists from Forest Hills high schools, noting that four district students placed among the top national qualifiers. District leaders praised the students’ academic preparation and extracurricular engagement.
Megan Wolf, operations director of the Forest Hills Foundation for Education, said the foundation awarded more than $45,000 in student grants this year and included six students on the review team; two—Oliver and Susina Tafara—came to the meeting to describe their experience serving on the committee.
"Being part of it makes us feel more included as a whole for a district," Oliver said, and Susina added that watching video grant applications from elementary students helped reviewers better understand on‑the‑ground needs.
Wolf also announced that registration for the Forest Hills 5K on May 9 is open at foresthills5k.com and encouraged local businesses to sponsor or attend; she said the event draws more than 3,000 people and offers multiple sponsorship levels. Separately, business operations staff described a Nagle Middle School capital campaign that includes donor bricks and a vision for expanded spectator and family spaces; the Anderson Wildcats have committed $75,000 toward a new scoreboard.
