Council Member Sheehan reported the General Government and Planning Committee received a staff update on the Blue Sky Small Area Plan and a working-group review of LFUCG-operated community and neighborhood centers.
Sheehan said staff completed an analysis of conditions, a market review and public outreach for the approximately 301-acre Blue Sky Activity Center, which supports about 150 businesses and more than 1,000 jobs. Discussion at the committee focused on infrastructure needs including electrical reliability, internet capacity, lighting and safety at the I‑75 interchange, and modernization of industrial zoning regulations. Sheehan said draft recommendations will move forward to the planning commission as part of the 2045 comprehensive plan.
Sheehan also summarized a year-long working-group analysis of city-run community centers, noting inconsistencies in staffing, programming and resources. Recommendations included adopting minimum standards through a "community center promise," creating a shared performance dashboard, streamlining partnerships, and strengthening communication and safety protocols.
