Council places several items on docket, proclaims March as National Social Work Month and recognizes long‑serving staff

Mayor Linda Gorton presented a proclamation declaring March 2026 National Social Work Month and invited social services staff and families to the dais. Casey Allen Bryant, invited as the city’s social services commissioner, thanked social workers for their service.
Brianna Priestley, director of youth services, presented a 22‑year service award in remembrance of Tara Janine Sullivan and recognized Sullivan’s family in the chamber.
During council reports, Councilmember Reynolds moved to place on the March 12 docket an ordinance to dedicate a portion of Shaker Drive (from Harrodsburg Road to the entrance of Harrodsburg Square Condominiums) to Lexington Fayette Urban County Government as a public way; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Other docket motions approved by voice vote included adding the Racial Justice and Equity Commission to the General Government Planning Committee’s list of annual reports and scheduling a presentation by EHI Consultants on a comprehensive opportunity assessment for the joint government planning committee.
Councilmember Sheehan reminded the public about a downtown master‑plan interactive workshop and announced board of adjustment open‑house dates for a conditional use permit at 319 Duke Road (March 4 and March 5, 6–8 p.m.). The council adjourned following routine business.
