Cooke County emergency management to join statewide alert test April 2

Cooke County emergency management announced the county will participate in a statewide emergency alert drill organized by the Texas Division of Emergency Management on April 2.
Rand Brown of the Cooke County Office of Emergency Management said the drill will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will send test messages through CodeRED and the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). Brown warned that because multiple jurisdictions will participate, residents might receive more than one test alert during the window. He emphasized the test is voluntary for local entities and that any jurisdiction experiencing a real emergency is exempt from participation.
The county has distributed notice to local independent school districts, mayors’ offices, medical centers and regional emergency partners and will evaluate the delivery and receipt of alerts as part of the exercise.
Brown said the exercise aims to improve coordination and to identify gaps in message delivery so agencies can refine their mass-notification processes.
