Local accelerator asks boroughs to back Pittsburgh-area robotics hub with joint support letter

Dan Kelly, board president of C Valley Accelerator, asked the council on March 11 to join Homestead and West Homestead in a letter of support aimed at convincing the Robotics Alliance to set up a robotics hub in the Steel Valley region.
Kelly said the alliance, a nonprofit that helps coordinate robotics companies, identified the Pittsburgh region as a target and would like a community to host a flagship site. “We as our organization are committed to trying to support them to come here,” Kelly said, adding the Accelerator would help find empty spaces and facilitate deployment and testing.
The request is for a nonbinding letter that signals local interest and offers to work with the alliance on logistics; Kelly said the council’s signature would not commit the borough to funding or other obligations. He presented a draft and said the Accelerator would accept edits.
Council members expressed general support and asked that the letter include the three boroughs so the Robotics Alliance sees a regional offer. The council discussed packaging a single letter on behalf of the McConnell-area councils and directed staff to circulate a draft for review.
No formal vote was taken; Kelly said the Accelerator would follow up with edits and additional contacts for the mayor’s office and local tech partners.
The next step is circulation of the draft for council edits and a potential formal endorsement at a subsequent meeting.
