Board approves several superintendent-recommended personnel appointments; members raise questions about pay grades and captions

The Groveport Madison School Board approved several superintendent-recommended personnel items, including certifications for classroom and administrative roles and contracts for a director of human capital and a director of student services.

The superintendent presented a certificate of certified personnel and explained a clerical error in the agenda for Miss Wyatt’s title; the board agreed the minutes would reflect the corrected title indicating the position as supervisor/coordinator of secondary special education.

The superintendent also recommended Jatina Threet as director of human capital. Board members asked how experience was evaluated and whether the pay grade placed the candidate at the top of the scale; the superintendent said placement was determined by total years of administrative experience and standard selection criteria. One board member noted the job description the board approved on Jan. 12, 2022, listed a master’s degree/administrative license as preferred rather than required.

The board then approved the contract for the director of student services; the superintendent noted Casey Martin was present and accepted responsibility for the new position. Several members thanked district staff for providing application materials and resumes in advance.

During board-member comments, the Chair raised an accessibility concern about meeting captions, saying captions did not identify speakers and did not meet needs. A board member confirmed that the January 2022 job description used the word “preferred” rather than “required” for advanced credentials.

Each superintendent-recommended item was moved, seconded and approved during roll-call or voice votes as recorded in the meeting transcript. No formal policy changes or pay-grade changes were made in open session during these votes; minutes and job descriptions will be updated where clerical errors were identified.
