A board member countered that, with a recent levy defeat, the district should prioritize classroom positions and aides over adding or maintaining a director-level position. “We’re going to the store with a limited budget now, and we’re looking at cuts,” the board member said. “What is the most important thing for us to put in the basket?”
Board members also debated whether the job posting’s educational requirements matched the practical needs of the facilities role; one member said the posted description required a master’s degree and an administrative license in a way the district has not historically required. The superintendent said the posting had been revised during the hiring process and that earlier, lower-pay postings did not attract a strong candidate pool.
On the roll call for the motion to approve Dodd’s contract the clerk recorded: Missus Devenberger — Aye; Miss Zimmer — Yes; Missus Herbert — Aye; Missus Walsh — No; Mister Persinger — No. The motion carried.
The discussion highlighted ongoing tensions on the board over staffing levels, facilities maintenance and budget constraints in the wake of the levy defeat. The board moved to the next superintendent-recommended personnel items after the vote.
